Planning for the arrival of your new little one can be daunting. The nursery, the daycare, the clothes shopping, the feedings, the furniture…and you haven’t even given birth yet! The to-do lists are likely never ending, but one thing is always at the top of the list- scheduling your newborn session
Some parents talk about it, but the time just seems to slip away. That seems to be a common theme when you become in charge of a tiny human. Not much time to do anything. I’m happy to help you get that session scheduled. I promise to make it one of the easiest, most rewarding processes of your entire journey into parenthood.
When is the best time to book my newborn session?
The first trimester has just wrapped up and the nausea has subsided-praise be! I believe the best time to schedule your newborn session is in the second trimester, typically after your 20 week checkup. It’s best to do it as early as possible because newborn photographers book so far out, however, I always recommend waiting until the 20 week mark, so we know that everything is progressing as they should.
When you book early enough we will have plenty of time to plan your entire session and acquire anything we need to meet your vision. This might mean new clothing, certain colors, and/or props. Does this mean you can’t book your newborn session in your third trimester? No, not at all. I will try to fit you in my schedule as best as I can.
What if my baby isn’t born close to the due date?
Not a problem at all! When we book your session, the initial date that we pick is a general timeframe. We will set a firm date seven to fourteen days after birth. Some babies might need more time in the hospital which is okay! You will always be on my radar and we will be in close contact about selecting a date that works best for your family.
Is my newborn session date and time flexible?
Within reason, absolutely! I always tell my families to plan on shooting right around the two week mark. This will give you time to possibly nail down a feeding schedule, get in a lot of rest, and prepare your home. I understand that babies will create their own schedules and that is something that I make sure to work around.
What about the location? Colors? Clothes?
All of my newborn sessions take place in my clients’ homes. This is where you will feel most comfortable and less stressed. When you’re less stressed, the baby is less stressed which leads to an incredibly successful newborn shoot. Through out our whole planning process, I will be checking in about which rooms to prepare, asking for cell phone photos of your home for lighting purposes, and will send wardrobe guides your way. Be sure to check out my next blog post for clothing options for your newborn shoot.
