I loved photographing this First Birthday Session. So so much! I met Megan through a local networking group. Which, if you haven’t found one- you should. They’re so valuable and believe it or not, everyone has something to contribute to the group.
Cake Smash Time
She inquired about a First Birthday session for her cute little daughter. Um, yes. With the crazy baby fever I’ve been having, I was almost willing to pay her to let me photograph this session. Ha! She envisioned the entire session herself and brought it to life. I literally had to provide the space, and a good time. She went with a Whimsical Winter complete with silver, pinks, and colorful pom-poms. And did you see the skirt that matched perfectly? Looked like she was straight out of a Hobby Lobby ad. So adorable.
Well, no matter how cute someone looks, sometimes the session just doesn’t go as planned. And it is perfectly fine. She was completely smitten with her Momma and didn’t want much to do with photos. Or her delicious cake.
Your Modern Story was born
This was the epitome of why I rebranded last summer with the name of Your Modern Story. This was Megan’s current family chapter. Her daughter’s First Birthday session captured what it was like to be K’s mom at that time, her emotions, her desires, and her interests. I love that Megan was in a decent amount of photos- holding K, feeding her in a cake covered hoodie that wasn’t intended to be in the shot. They were able to play on the rug, and K was able to climb into her lap where she felt more comfortable.
I urge you to seek simplicity in your sessions. Of course we all just want “one good one”, but sometimes your current chapter will ring louder than that. It will consume the session just as it should.
Megan, I can’t wait to photograph your growing gal in the future!
