Water births in Denver ARE a thing even if we are a land-locked state. Would you consider a water birth, or where would your preference be to give birth?
Did you know that part of the American Association of Birth Centers defines a birth center as a space that is home-like that functions within a healthcare system and follows guidelines regarding prevention, safety, and appropriate intervention. Birth centers are usually a separate entity from a hospital and are not required to follow the hospitals procedures. It is usually governed by a separate agency, but must follow state regulations.
That’s exactly what Colorado Birth and Wellness is! It offers two locations, but the Lowery location the only one with a birthing center. It has various rooms that are meant to feel like how all while being under professional care. They pride themselves on you being the sole decision maker throughout your birthing journey and promote a family- centered process. They’re along for the ride of witnessing happy babies enter the earth, but are there for medical support and guidance. They offer various classes focusing on lactation support, chiropractic care, and perinatal mental health. Their website speaks for itself- look at all of those healthy babies.

It is often assumed that water births can only take place at a holistic birthing center or at home. False. Many hospitals do offer water births as an option! UCHealth has various locations that offer this approach that is considered more relaxing for mothers. At UCHealth, a Certified Nurse Midwife will be present to monitor the baby and mom to make sure everything is moving along as it should. They are able to meet with mothers ahead of time to confirm if a water birth is the best and safest option for their birth plan. If so, they will allow the mother to be comfortable in various forms leading up to her water birth such as using the support ball, walking in the hallway, and even providing nitrous oxide. These methods are proven to help with pain management-who doesn’t love that?

I feel the most popular option for water births take place in your own home. There are tons of midwives that offer this support and will set up the entire tub for you. When you’ve successfully and comfortably given birth, they will clean up the entire area so you can have your home back to normal. Well, as normal as it could be for a short while, huh? I love this option because you truly know your home better than anyone. You know where you’ll be most comfortable. And how cool is that to bring your baby home within seconds of their arrival?

I was supposed to photograph a birth once at a birthing center but the sweet little girl decided to be born in the car on the way to her own birth. I’d love to support you in this momentous time of your life with birth photography. I’d also super duper love to photograph your baby as a newborn. They’re my top favorite kind of session to do. Let’s chat!
