When I’m not shooting families and seniors outdoors, you can find me living my best life as a Thornton newborn photographer indoors.
There’s something about shooting slowly at a newborn’s pace. It is a complete 180 compared to a family session. During an outdoor family session, I’m loud. I walk all over, I’m shooting up, down and all around to get different angles. I often make sarcastic jokes and comments to get all of the genuine smiles. But not newborns.
Newborn sessions are just different. The best kind of different.
I’m forced to slow the hell down and to be quiet. We let the baby lead the session and you can often find me just petting the top of the baby’s head. Especially a red head like little Finn.
From the first point of contact with Stephanie, I knew without a shadow of a doubt that we were meant to work together. I just knew! There are often inquiries that come, and my gut says, “Pass on this one, Jessica. This isn’t the perfect family for you. Refer them out and wish them well.” But Stephanie’s inquiry wasn’t that way. We connected instantly!
I felt comfortable in their home, asking about their lives (I’m nosey!), and immediately felt like a temporary family member.
They had great outfits selected that were nice and neutral. Their home was just as amazing! It allowed us to pop around to all different areas that offered some bright natural light.
Okay- let’s talk about Finn. My favorite kind of redhead is a newborn redhead. They don’t know how dreamy red heads are yet, so they are very humble with all of the hair compliments, haha. He was calm the entire time; even when he was peeing on my blanket! Which is totally normal and expected. Took a little breather and had a quick snack, and then was ready to start shooting again.
I get to see this amazing family again in a few months for an updated family session. Finn will likely be sitting up then! Isn’t it crazy how fast time goes? Like, super crazy!
