The Only Mother’s Day Gift That She Wants

Flowers are nice. Candy is nice. A clean house is freaking awesome. But…say it with me…”We. Want. Photos!”

We don’t just want photos OF our kids, we want photos WITH our kids. And honestly, we kinda don’t even want our spouses in the photos at all. I mean, maybe some do, but most likely not. We don’t necessarily want a whole family session with super thought out outfits and locations. We don’t need a big hoopla-just some cute photos of us WITH our children.

A few years ago, I booked a session just for me and my kids. This was back when my kids were just starting to become coffee snobs, so I booked a session with a photographer down at a cute little coffee shop. It was so fun- the light was amazing and I still love those photos so so much. I remember posting them, and soon after started receiving texts asking if my husband are no longer together. For reals? Just because you finally see a photo of me WITH my kids and WITHOUT my husband, you assume that we are done? Haha. Oh dear…

I started scheduling these more often and I love it. Guess who else loves it? My husband. He’s says,”I don’t have to come again? This is awesome.” We still do the big family session roughly every two years, but these little sessions with just my kids are perfect for everyone. My kids know that since it’s just us, it will be quick and painless. They’re more willing to just do it and get it over with to make me happy which is what everyone involved wants, right?

I encourage you all to do them. Book the session for your wife or girlfriend. Book the session for yourself for no other reason than you freaking want to. I promise you with every fiber in my body that you will be over the moon.

What do these Mother’s Day Photos in Denver usually look like?

Well they can look like whatever you want. Seriously. Like I mentioned earlier, I wanted my session with my kids at a coffee shop. A lot of moms want just a super neutral, clean-slate type of look at a studio (which I also am a super-fan of). Tons and tons of moms want Spring sessions of them sitting in a bed of flowers and their kids piled on top. Other options would be to head to an adorable greenhouse, or a Denver rooftop for an urban session. It’s your choice! You get to be the creative director for your Mother’s Day photos.
