Just finished up this family’s in home newborn photos! Remember those incredible maternity shots I posted on this blog about my friend Sam? Well, her little bundle arrived early! Little Ginna came sooner than expected, and I got to snap some newborn images of her before she starts growing like a weed.
I had lunch with Sam a couple weeks before Gianna was born and I told her, “Ya know, she could technically come any time now!” Low and behold, the baby heard me and took me seriously!
Ten Days Old
I headed over to Matt and Sam’s house about ten days after the baby was born for their session. I feel like this is such a great time frame to photograph newborns. It gives the parents just enough time to settle into a makeshift routine, allows time for mom to get her hair done if she wants, feedings are usually going smooth, and the baby is still content enough to snooze the entire time. I’ve even had parents schedule even three weeks after birth because of all the same reasons, though. There’s really no right or wrong time for in home newborn photos!
No Matter What, Wardrobe is Important
These guys took my advice with their wardrobe and I’m so glad they did. Neutral colors will always look more flattering for in-home images no matter how bad new moms want to wear all black. I get it. Lord, I get it! But I also know what photographs well. Their front room worked so perfect for the majority of their photos because the light was hitting just right. No matter where a large window is in your home, we will likely use it for your session. Their window happened to be in their super cute dining room and I loved every image from that room.
Grandma’s in the House!
Grandma was there staying for a while to see her new granddaughter, so of course we had to get her in for a couple of photos. Funny story… She thought I was a murderer when I was doing Sam’s maternity session. Haha! She told Sam, “Now, are you sure this is safe? There are a lot of crazy people out there that do crazy things to pregnant women!” Sam assured her that we were friends and it was fine. And it was! It was nice to meet her face-to-face and put her worries at ease. It made for a great laugh, too. My mom is the exact same way, always looking out for me no matter how old I get.
I hope to photograph this family as Gianna grows and grows and grows! For now, show them some love and share any advice for this new family!
