Denver Lifestyle Newborn Photos | Posed or Lifestyle

Did you know there was a difference between Denver lifestyle newborn photographs and studio newborn photos? There is and they’re polar opposite. One is not better than the other- just different.

I’m a newborn photographer that shoots very candidly. Very authentic. Very real-time. This my friends- is lifestyle photography!

It’s a family session- not just baby!

While the purpose of the session is to photograph the new baby, my sessions will always include family members. Mom and baby, dad and baby, baby with siblings, and baby alone. Grabbing still frames of each family member interacting with the new baby will blow your mind. It should be remembered how your new wee one fit into each family member’s arms.

Newborn sessions are about details!

A similarity between the two styles are the detail shots. I don’t know of a newborn photographer- posed or lifestyle- that doesn’t grab detail shots. Newborn flakey skin, noses, fingers, yawns, and wrinkled toes happen in both worlds of newborn photography. They are often at different angles and different lighting, but they’re there!

Froggy Pose and Bean Bags

I’m sure you’ve all seen the super cute photos of the newborns holding their own cheeks while hunched over on a blanket, right? Adorable! This is a popular shot done by posed newborn photographers. They have had appropriate training to do this, and they require different equipment to do it effectively. Large bean bags, flashes, swaddles and buckets are usually involved. Does this mean it can’t be done during a lifestyle session? No, but it is unlikely. We do travel with our own equipment, but it is usually some swaddles, maybe a small flash, and then our good ol’ camera.

Let’s Talk About Time

Newborns like to make their own schedule and it often conflicts with ours, am I right? Lifestyle newborn sessions are more of a “go with the flow” type of session. I only offer one hour newborn bookings which is always plenty of time. Since it’s based off of real time care of the baby, if the baby needs to stop and eat, then that’s what we take photos of! Does the baby need to be bounced to be soothed for a few minutes? We will be shooting that, too. Getting in and out of your home with the least amount of disruption to your routine is my goal. Posed newborn sessions tend to take a couple of hours to allow for feedings and diaper changes.
