I’m a Colorado Photographer. While you might think, “Wow, that’s so rad!”, there’s one super stressful part of this gig. Read on, please.
In your job, profession, or industry, how do you feel when you have to showcase your talents or performance in front of another person in your same position? Me? Oh, I panic. Full on panic mode.
Panic Mode.
I met Miranda through a Colorado Photographer networking group. She was interested in some family photos, so I dropped my name in the bucket of other talented creatives and hoped for the best. Like always. Just hoping for the best!
Sure enough, Miranda messaged me and said she loved my work. Like, me? You mean, you could have chosen another Colorado photographer, but you picked me to do your family photos? Awesome! Crap. I mean, this is great- right?
We literally, and I say that very emphatically, could not have picked a better day for their session. She wasn’t picky about their location, which made me happy because Colorado landscape died a couple weeks before her session took place. We headed up to a gorgeous lake that has stunning mountain views. This location is complete with a bridge, giant grassy areas, and water access that creates stunning portraits. Warm weather at the end of October? I’ll take it.
Wardrobe Matters. Period.
Her wardrobe was the best. It was simple, but coordinated so well. A mix of dresses and pants, colors and patterns. Her color scheme? One of my favorites!
Want to know something else for an incredibly successful family session? Letting kids be kids and have them lead the session. Kids hate family portraits. They do. BUT, if you can convince them that this is the funnest play date ever, they will comply. That’s exactly what we did with the kids- we played! And it shows in their images.
Okay now the best part of the entire time with Miranda and her family- it felt like a normal family! I didn’t feel pressure like I ALWAYS do, and I didn’t feel like she was judging my every move as a fellow photographer. I treated her just like any other family I’ve ever photographed, and she treated me like she’s never been photographed.
These photos speak for themselves, guys. Amazing!
When is it your turn? I promise I won’t be as nervous to meet you and your family!
