How to Prep for your Colorado Newborn Session

1. Book Early

Newborn sessions are best scheduled during the first two weeks of life—ideally between 5–14 days. Reach out during your third trimester to secure your spot. This gives us time to chat, plan, and ensure you’re on the calendar.

2. Keep Baby Comfy

A full belly and a warm space are key. Try to feed your baby right before the session begins. I’ll bring extra blankets and keep the room cozy to help soothe your little one into a peaceful, sleepy state—perfect for those sweet, snuggly shots.

3. Stick to Simple Outfits

Soft, neutral tones photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your baby. Avoid bright patterns or logos. A white onesie, a snug swaddle, or even no outfit at all (in a tasteful setup) works wonderfully. Don’t worry—I’ll guide you with style suggestions that suit your home and personality. 4. Prepare Siblings (and Pets!)

If older siblings or furry family members will be included, I’ll help you plan ways to make their involvement stress-free. We’ll keep it playful and relaxed so everyone feels included—especially the littles.

5. Declutter Your Space (Just a Little)

If we’re photographing in your home, try to tidy areas we might use, like the nursery, master bedroom, or living room. No need for perfection—just a little clearing goes a long way to create a clean, timeless backdrop.

6. Don’t Stress About Perfection

Newborn sessions are beautifully unpredictable. Babies fuss, need feeding breaks, or fall asleep mid-pose—and that’s all part of the story. I’ll guide the flow, keep things calm, and make sure the experience is enjoyable for everyone.

7. Choose Natural Light

I love working with soft, natural light for a clean and modern look. I’ll help scout the best spots in your home or studio space based on lighting. Morning sessions tend to offer the best glow—but I’m flexible and can work with your routine.

8. Trust the Process

Every baby is unique, and no two sessions are the same. Some of the most beautiful, emotion-filled images come from candid, unscripted moments. I’ll be there every step of the way, gently guiding and adjusting as we go.

9. Have a Few Essentials Handy

Diapers, wipes, pacifiers, and a few clean burp cloths close by can make things smoother. If you’re using a favorite swaddle or sentimental item, let’s include it!

10. Relax and Enjoy the Moment

This is a time to soak in your baby’s tiny features, little stretches, and those sleepy yawns. My approach is laid-back and lifestyle-driven, so we’ll keep things light and fun. You just focus on being present—I’ll take care of the rest.
