Something happened last year. Well, okay, a lot freaking happened. It was 2020 after all. I became a Colorado Boudoir Photographer.
I know, right. Crazy
I had done a couple of boudoir shoots for some great girls in the past, but it was never advertised, marketed, or enjoyed.Until…
I was picking the brain of another Colorado boudoir photographer about prices for my family sessions. My exact words to her were, “I’m not a boudoir photographer, and never want to be actually, but can we talk about my prices.” From there, she suggested a couple of books, we went back and forth and then she ended up inviting me to a Facebook page filled with boudoir photographers. My initial thought was, “Ugh.” She said, “I know it’s a boudoir group, but they discuss a lot about prices for other genres.” Okay. Fine. I clicked join.
I sat back for weeks. Weeks! And just watched these women rave about how much they love making other women feel…feel…amazing. I wanted to experience that. I wanted to dip my toes into this realm of being a Colorado boudoir photographer and see WTF they were talking about.
Through the magic of networking, I met a waxing studio owner and knew I had to photograph her. She was the cutest, and super sweet. I waited a while to ask her, but went ahead and did it. Not only did I ask to photograph her, but I asked to photograph her entire team! Her response was, “Yes times a hundred!” I was shocked! I thought for sure she’d say, “ Thanks, but no thanks.”
Instead, I was able to rent an AirBnb for six girls. Six girls! They were all willing, ready, and excited. Ashlie, the salon owner, and I went through a ton of different locations. I finally made the decision to book the boho themed house because I felt that would match my overall brand the most.
Holy shit. It did not disappoint. The light and shadows that I was able to play with had me so happy. And also, it had a shower and that is where some serious photo-taking took place.
All of the girls were each other’s hype girls. They had so much fun, and so did I.
After their sessions were delivered, I decided to further my boudoir shoots and made a Facebook group for women to love themselves. The outcome has been so far from my original expectations. The women in this group have shared about their past, their successes, their worries, and the booty pics are just a plus. We have fun with silly posts, questions, and do a lot of giveaways.
I owe a lot to that other local photographer who invited me to that original Facebook group. I had no idea I needed it.
