We all know that babies come on their own time, right? That’s perfectly okay when it comes to booking your newborn session. We will just your due date just for bookkeeping purposes and for securing a date on my calendar. We will have have some flexibility when it comes to the actual shoot date. I love photographing newborn babies when they’re around ten to fourteen days old. This will allow you to get into a tiny (and short lived) routine, learn what will soothe the baby, and start to feel semi-human again. I know I know… you won’t feel like your normal self for a hot second, but that’s perfectly okay! Can you do your newborn photos earlier than ten days or after fourteen? Of course! There’s no right or wrong time to do them.

The most important part of your session is that we have a happy and comfortable baby no matter where we choose to shoot.
Having your newborn session take place in your own home is the most popular choice by many families. Having everything you need at your fingertips is incredibly handy when you have a fussy baby. Blow out? No problem- the baby will have access to all of their outfit changes. Lost a binky and you know that’s why they need to calm down? Easy to get a new one from the kitchen. I love having newborn sessions at home because it’s personalized and custom. No one, ever, will have the same newborn or family session as you. Photographing in the nursery, your master bedroom, and even your hallway will create the sweetest photos.

Another option is to have your newborn photos at a local studio. Oftentimes I photograph babies at my home studio located near Broomfield. It is a cozy setting with neutral colors that is perfect for their first photos. There are a lot of great studios in and around Broomfield that will give you gorgeous timeless photos to share on your home walls.

Keep it neutral, comfy, and timeless. This means lots of tans, creams, and whites. This also means sleeper sacks, onesies, and tight knit jammies. I have a lot of boutiques in the area that I love to send families to for newborn clothes that fit this style. We don’t want to photograph newborns in super trendy outfits because it’s not realistic. It’s simple and real life to photograph them in simple pajamas or a tight swaddle.
A good ol’ button up paired with some khaki colored jeans or chino pants are the best for dads. For moms, a simple knit white sweater and some wide leg jeans always makes for cute photos.
I highly suggest to avoid reds and pinks. These make color casts onto skin and it just simply isn’t flattering for indoor photos.

As cliche as it is, your baby will be even bigger tomorrow. I always suggest to my families that book a newborn session to print their photos in an heirloom album or large wall art. Within one year, your newborn will almost be unrecognizable as they grow into an infant and soon a toddler. It’s imperative that we remember every single baby feature and detail!
I’m looking forward to being your Broomfield Newborn Photographer. Seriously. I have no doubt that we can make some incredible baby photos for you to share with your family and friends. Be sure to follow me on Instagram because I post a lot of inspo photos on there! Let’s talk about your vision and get a date on the calendar!
