There are a lot of important factors to consider when booking your senior session, but I think the one most teens prioritize is the location. Whether you envision your photos in an urban setting, out in nature, on a mountain, or in a studio- I promise I can deliver photos that meet these expectations.
We’re hitting up Denver, for sure. The streets of Denver offer various kinds of “urban”! For example, if you’re interested in the murals by local artists, graffiti walls, and a grunge vibe, then we would go straight to RiNo (River North Arts District). If you like more of a sophisticated, high-end feel, then I would take you directly to The Millennium Bridge off of 16th behind Union Station. Another cute type of “urban” senior session we can do is Downtown Boulder or Lafayette. Their main streets offer a lot of charm and unique photo opportunities. A lot people love getting senior photos in their hometown! I think the best time to use downtown for senior photos would be during the spring and summer months because it looks amazing down there with vining greenery, flourishing plants, and bright sunshine cutting through the buildings.

Thankfully, Boulder is never short of amazing places for outdoor photo locations with mountains, trees, and water. The most popular spot in Boulder is…you guess it…Chautauqua. This location offers the recognizable Flat Irons and often has a lot of great wild flowers popping up. Another great spot in Boulder is South Mesa (my favorite). Do a lot of seniors go there for photos? Yes. But it doesn’t mean that I make all of my seniors have the same photos. There are a lot of creative ways to use this space to make each session unique. These locations photograph beautifully year round!
There are a lot of other amazing spots for photos other than these few mentioned above. Some factors to take into consideration for other locations would be photography permits. Denver Botanic Gardens is a stunning place shoot at, but requires you to get a permit which is around $100. Worth it in my opinion!

There’s no wrong month to book your senior session. You’ll have certain timelines and deadlines to given by your school for yearbook photos. Oftentimes, these dates are between October and December. With that being said, most high school seniors have their session take place the summer before their senior year begins. This allows time for you to get it done before your schedule becomes busy with sports, homework, and other school activities.
Sometimes I offer a discount to my seniors that book their session early on in the summer. This doesn’t meant that you need to have your session completed earlier, just booked earlier. For example, I’ve offered seniors a $50 discount if they book by the end of June! Another great way to save money on an already expensive senior year.

Since it’s Colorado, we do have to consider weather during certain months, too. I know I know- I hate the snow too. The earlier we get your senior session scheduled, then we don’t have to worry about you being cold or possibly snowed on later in the year!

I love to assist my high school seniors in selecting the best wardrobe for their photos. Some important factors to consider for both male and female sessions would be the location, and time of year. While having a photoshoot in an urban setting is fun, it would clash with a floral dress. You’re more than welcome to wear whatever you want no matter what, though.
I always suggest one of the tops or rompers be white or cream, one other solid patterned top or dress, and a final solid colored top. Leaving it to patterns and solids makes for timeless photos. Think about looking at your photos in 20 years from now- will you regret your outfit choices? Probably not of they are neutral and timeless

I love a good ol’ button up paired with some khaki colored jeans or chino pants. As with the girls, I always suggest a white top, and then a patterned shirt. This just gives some versatility to your images.
Everyone is encouraged to bring their letterman’s jacket if they have one and any type of prop they’d like to incorporated to remember their senior year. Popular items to bring are sports equipment, and my personal favorite- their puppies.
I highly suggest to avoid reds and pinks. These make color casts onto skin and it just simply isn’t flattering. However, if that’s your favorite color, you should definitely bring a red shirt. Avoid any logos, and large images on the front of t-shirts,
Listen to me- I’ve been a Boulder Senior Photographer for a long time. I know what you’re going to love and I know what your parents are going to love. These are not the photos to miss out on and they most certainly aren’t the photos you should be cheap with.
I love when girls fully invest in hiring a makeup artist to add some light natural makeup. Go out for the afternoon and get your hair put in some gorgeous curls and make it a whole day of pampering. Don’t wait until the day before your session to select your clothes. Every time you go shopping, keep an eye out for outfits you love and start piecing your wardrobe together. Boys, make sure you book a haircut one to two days in advance.
Finally- think about what you want to do with your photos once your session is complete. How do you want to display and share them with friends and families? Most families opt for purchasing a leather heirloom album, and digital photos. I highly suggest not just keeping all of your photos in the cloud or on a hard drive. Create some art that you can pass down for future generations.
I’m looking forward to being your Boulder Senior Photographer. Seriously. I have no doubt that we can make some incredible senior photos for you to pop in your yearbook and for your friends to see.Be sure to follow me on Instagram because I post a lot of inspo photos on there!
